Monoethyl Pimelate is a synthetic aliphatic hydrocarbon that is a hdac inhibitor. HDAC inhibitors are used in the treatment of cancer, as they inhibit the activity of histone deacetylases and so lead to an increase in acetylation of histones. This process increases the expression of genes that promote cell death and inhibits the expression of genes that promote cell growth. Monoethyl Pimelate has been shown to have anti-carcinogenic effects on prostate carcinoma cells in vitro. In addition, this compound has been shown to be beneficial for the diagnosis of prostate cancer, as it can be used as a diagnostic agent. It also increases cellular energy metabolism through its ability to activate fatty acid oxidation in mitochondria.
