Inhibition of monoamine oxidase (MAO) by 3-bromo-2,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde is due to the presence of the aldehyde group and introduction of substituents in the benzene ring. 3-Bromo-2,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde blocks MAO activity and may be useful in treating depression.
