Methyl 2-fluoro-4-(hydroxymethyl)benzoate is a biologically active compound that has been shown to have locomotor activity in mice. It is also an inhibitor of the enzyme DNA polymerase and, as such, has been used in the development of anti-cancer drugs. Methyl 2-fluoro-4-(hydroxymethyl)benzoate is not acutely toxic to animals or humans and has been shown to be a cardiac stimulant. The chemical reacts with sodium metal at high temperatures to form methyl myristate. The chemical's biological properties are due to its ability to inhibit molecules that are involved in infectious diseases such as HIV and malaria.BR>BR>
