In this way it can be used to determine the pH of an unknown solution. The equilibrium constant is 10^14 at 25 degrees Celsius. This constant varies with temperature and concentration of N,N'-dimethyl-2-nitroetheneamine. The electronic spectra show that this molecule is an anion.
