Diniconazole is a fungicide that inhibits the growth of fungi by interfering with the synthesis of ergosterol, an important component of fungal cell membranes. It is used to treat skin infections and other infectious diseases caused by fungi. Diniconazole has been shown to have synergistic effects with amphotericin B in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans. The anti-fungal activity of diniconazole is due to its ability to bind to ergosterol, which inhibits the synthesis of sterols and leads to inhibition of ergosterol peroxidase, an enzyme that catalyzes oxidative reactions on ergosterol in fungal cells. This results in a decrease in membrane fluidity and cell integrity.
