Product Information
Ubiquitin thiolesterase UCHL1 is a protein that is found in the cytosol of cells and has been shown to have synergistic effects with other proteins. It has been proposed that this enzyme may be involved in the pathogenesis of fulminant hepatic failure. A case-control study was conducted to examine the frequencies of various genotypes for ubiquitin thiolesterase UCHL1 and their effect on risk reduction for fulminant hepatic failure. The study showed a synergic effect between two variants of ubiquitin thiolesterase UCHL1, one being more common than the other. This finding suggested that these two variants could be used as markers for susceptibility to fulminant hepatic failure, which may be useful in predicting patients at high risk for this condition.
