Product Information
Dibenzo[a,I]pyrene-d14 is a mutagen that is used to study the effect of isotope substitution on chemical reactivity. It has been shown to be mutagenic in Salmonella typhimurium and also induces mutation in Escherichia coli. The effects of deuterium substitution on the reactivity of dibenzo[a,I]pyrene-d14 have been studied using quartz as a substrate. Deuterium substitutions are found to decrease the rate of reaction by more than 50%. This decrease in reactivity has been rationalized by considering the reduced kinetic energy of deuterium atoms relative to hydrogen atoms. Dibenzo[a,I]pyrene-d14 is not mutagenic for Escherichia coli, but does induce mutations in Salmonella typhimurium.
