JNK inhibitor X is a novel antibiotic that inhibits the JNK signaling pathway. It has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in animal models and also to have an effect on the production of inflammatory cytokines. The antibiotic activity of this drug is due to its ability to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis and cell division. BI-78D3 inhibits the bacterial enzyme topoisomerase II, which is necessary for DNA replication and repair. BI-78D3 also prevents the formation of hydrogen bonds between the two strands of DNA, preventing replication and transcription. This drug binds to ATP binding sites on topoisomerase II, blocking access of ATP molecules and inhibiting assembly of new DNA strands.
