  • Naltrexone EP impurity I17-(cyclopropylmethyl)-4,5?-epoxy-3,14-dihydroxymorphinan-6,10-dione
  • Naltrexone EP Impurity I
Description:

Naltrexone impurity I is an impurity of naltrexone that can be found in the drug oxymorphone. It is a selective opiate antagonist that binds to opiate receptors in the brain, including those in the myenteric plexus and ileum. The affinity of naltrexone for these binding sites is much lower than that of oxycodone or oxymorphone. This means it will not displace these drugs from their binding sites and will therefore not cause withdrawal symptoms when used as a substitute for these drugs. Naltrexone impurity I also has low affinity for muscle tissue, which makes it suitable for use as a long-acting injectable drug.
