Description:6-Pterinyl folic acid is a chemical reagent that is used in the synthesis of pteridine derivatives. It is also used to prepare sulfates and esters of folic acid. 6-Pterinyl folic acid can be synthesized by reacting glutamic anhydride with trifluoroacetic acid and dimethylformamide. It reacts with sulfate ions to produce 6-pterinyl sulfate, which can then be hydrolyzed to release 6-pterinyl folic acid. The reagent can be used in the manufacture of fluoroquinolones, antibiotics that are used to treat a variety of bacterial infections including tuberculosis.
