Description:

Pregna-4,14-diene-3,20-dione is a nonsteroidal compound that inhibits the growth of fungi by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol. This molecule is a metabolic product of curvularia and can be used to inhibit microbial growth. Pregna-4,14-diene-3,20-dione has been shown to yield two magnetic resonance signals in 1H NMR spectroscopy due to its aromatic nature. It can be used as an antimicrobial agent or as a precursor in organic synthesis.
