Pepstatin A is a protein inhibitor that binds to, and thereby inhibits the activity of, aspartyl proteases. Pepstatin A has been shown to have inhibitory effects on both chymotrypsin-like and trypsin-like proteases. Pepstatin A is often used as an inhibitor in research, for example, to study protein interactions or receptor binding. It can also be used as a reagent for the detection of antibodies in immunoprecipitation assays.
