Description:Sildenafil N-Oxide is a solvate, hydrate, and prodrug of sildenafil citrate. It is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction or pulmonary hypertension. Sildenafil N-Oxide is an oral drug that is converted to its active form, sildenafil, in the liver by CYP3A4. Sildenafil N-Oxide's effects on human erection are thought to be due to its ability to block phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which increases the levels of cGMP in smooth muscle cells and causes relaxation of the corpus cavernosum. This leads to increased blood flow into the penis and an erection.
