Ganoderic acid LM2 is a compound that is extracted from the mushroom Ganoderma lucidum. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells and induce apoptosis in human liver cancer cells. This compound also inhibits the production of β-catenin, which is required for cell proliferation. Ganoderic acid LM2 also has antitumour activities against other types of human cancers, such as breast cancer and prostate cancer. Ganoderic acid LM2 binds to β-catenin and thus prevents its association with the cell membrane, which prevents the formation of adherens junctions. This binding also inhibits the transcriptional activity of β-catenin, which regulates gene expression and proliferation.
