Product Information
3-Fluoro-5-nitrobenzamide (3FNBA) is a potent and selective inhibitor of mammalian trypanosomal 3-ketoacyl-CoA synthase, which is an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of lipids. 3FNBA has been shown to have significant activity against Trypanosoma brucei, with inhibitory potency that is 10 times higher than that of suramin. 3FNBA also has selectivity for mammalian cells over bacterial and yeast cells. The discovery of this drug was made through the screening of a group of compounds for their ability to inhibit mammalian trypanosomal 3-ketoacyl-CoA synthase.
