Chondroitinase ABC is a proteolytic enzyme that can cleave the terminal residues of chondroitin and chondroitin sulfate. It has been shown to be effective in degrading high-resistance chondroitin from human serum, as well as from terminal residues found in dextran sulfate. Chondroitinase ABC also has the ability to hydrolyze oligosaccharides and has been shown to have enzymatic activities on fetal bovine cartilage. The structural analysis shows that this enzyme consists of three domains: an N-terminal domain, a catalytic domain, and a C-terminal domain.
