Ribonuclease T1 is a ribonucleolytic enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of RNA molecules. It has been used as a model system for kinetic studies and to obtain kinetic data on enzyme-catalyzed reactions. Ribonuclease T1 has an inhibitory effect on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and is an important factor in the inhibition of DNA synthesis. This enzyme also plays a role in the regulation of gene expression by controlling the accumulation of mRNA transcripts. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) has been used to identify the reaction products formed during ribonuclease T1 catalysis. The phylogenetic tree constructed from amino acid sequences can be used to determine evolutionary relationships among organisms, which can be used in drug development. Ribonuclease T1 from Aspergillus oryzae has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on metazoans such as sea urchin embryos and frog oocytes, with no effect on yeast
