Streptococcus pneumoniae o-glycosidase is an enzyme that cleaves glycoproteins and glycolipids. It has been shown to activate glcnac, a prodrug of the anti-inflammatory drug galnac, by removing a cysteine residue in the drug's active form. The activation process is reversible, and only requires low levels of the enzyme. Streptococcus pneumoniae o-glycosidase can be used for affinity chromatography to isolate glycan subunits from lysates of human cells.
