• Description: SKI 178 is a potent and selective inhibitor of the enzyme soluble epidermal growth factor receptor, which is involved in cell signaling. SKI 178 inhibits the activation of epidermal growth factor receptor-mediated downstream signaling pathways that are required for cellular proliferation and survival. In addition, it induces apoptosis by activating caspase-3 in cancer cells. The molecular mechanisms of SKI 178's anti-tumor activity have been elucidated through genetic ablation experiments as well as biochemical properties. SKI 178 is a small molecule that binds to the heparan sulfate proteoglycan on the surface of cells, thereby inhibiting epidermal growth factor from binding to its receptor on the cell surface.
