It binds to the receptor site on ion channels, preventing ions from passing through. Fipexide hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit the activity of ligand-gated ion channels, like nicotinic acetylcholine receptors or serotonin receptors. Fipexide hydrochloride has also been shown to bind with high affinity to erythrocyte membrane protein band 3 and interfere with its functions in the transport of potassium ions across the membrane.
