5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine is a nucleophilic imidazole derivative that has antifungal activity. It is synthesized by reacting 2-chloro-5-nitropyridine with 2-chloroimidazole in the presence of a base. The compound was also found to be active against Candida glabrata and Candida krusei. 5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine binds to the pyridine ring of DNA and inhibits the synthesis of RNA and protein. It also has photophysical properties that can be used in assays for chemical structures.
