It has been shown to undergo cycloadditions, photophysical, and supramolecular reactions in the presence of other molecules. 1-[4-(2-Propynyloxy)phenyl]-1-ethanone shows luminescent properties under optical microscopy and shifts from red to blue when it is irradiated. The compound can also be used as an optical probe for studying the mechanism of drug release in vitro.
