Description:

2-[(S)-1-Hydroxyethyl]pyridine is a chiral, optically active anion that has been used in the preparation of enantiopure lanthanide complexes. It has been shown to have anisotropic magnetic properties and can be employed as a ligand for the synthesis of stable complexes. The optical purity of 2-[(S)-1-hydroxyethyl]pyridine is constant due to its high degree of symmetry.
2-[(S)-1-Hydroxyethyl]pyridine is soluble in organic solvents and can be synthesized by acetylation of pyridine with ethylene oxide.
