Dehydrotoxicarol is a flavonoid with inhibitory activities against bacteria. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against the genus Bacillus and against bacteria that produce skeleton structures, such as Penicillium chrysogenum. This compound has also been found to inhibit the prenylation of deguelin, which is a synthetic hexane-derived compound with antibacterial properties. Dehydrotoxicarol belongs to the family Rutaceae, which includes plants such as citrus fruits and bergamot oil. The chemical structure of this plant extract is similar to other flavonoids found in plants that are known for their antibacterial effects. Dehydrotoxicarol also has minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of 0.25 mg/mL against a variety of bacterial isolates, including Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis, suggesting that it could be an effective treatment for bacterial infections.
