Product Information
Cephalexin hydrochloride is a monohydrate form of cephalexin that is used to treat bacterial infections. Cephalexin hydrochloride binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit and inhibits protein synthesis, which leads to bacterial cell death. It also has an effect on the growth of Streptococcus pyogenes, an organism that causes streptococcal pharyngitis. Cephalexin hydrochloride has been shown to have a concentration-dependent effect on oral cephalosporins, with optimum concentrations ranging from 1-4 mg/L. Cephalexin hydrochloride can be administered orally or intravenously, but should not be administered intramuscularly or intrathecally due to toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) risks.
