Description:23-Hydroxybetulin is a flavonol that has been shown to have antidiabetic and anti-tumour activity. It is structurally related to the flavonols quercetin and kaempferol. The 23-hydroxy group on the B ring of the flavonol structure allows it to bind to the DNA-binding site of the transcriptional regulator, which alters gene expression. This structural modification may be important in cancer therapy as it can lead to death of cancer cells. 23-Hydoxybetulin also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
