Quinocarcin is a synthetic analog of the natural antibiotic, carbenicillin. Quinocarcin has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumors by binding to actin filaments in the cytoskeleton and inhibiting the polymerization of actin. This drug also inhibits urea production, which is a nitrogen-containing compound that is produced during protein metabolism. It also has anti-inflammatory effects due to its ability to inhibit reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inhibit tumor growth by acting as an anti-angiogenic agent. Quinocarcin can be used as a radiosensitizer for cancer treatment or as an adjuvant for hematopoietic stem cells transplantation.
