Decinnamoyltaxinine J is a paclitaxel analog that has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in human cell lines. It was found to be more potent than paclitaxel and brevifolin, which are natural taxoids produced by Taxus cuspidata. Decinnamoyltaxinine J binds to the topoisomerase II enzyme, preventing it from breaking down DNA strands. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to programmed cell death or apoptosis. Decinnamoyltaxinine J also inhibits the production of protein kinases, which may lead to cancer cell death.
