- Arglabine
Arglabin is a sesquiterpene lactone that is abundant in the leaves of the Arglaia, a shrub found in China. Arglabin has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential and induce apoptosis in cancer cells, while it also inhibits phospholipase A2 and reduces inflammation in vivo. The drug has been shown to be effective against chronic arthritis and atherosclerosis in vivo, with a possible use as an anti-inflammatory treatment for autoimmune diseases. Arglabin has been shown to inhibit the m2 phenotype of macrophages, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis at the ribosome level.
