Murraol is a natural compound that belongs to the class of phenylacetic acid derivatives. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and anticancer activity against human leukemia L1210 cells. Murraol also inhibits the growth of human prostate cancer DU145 cells and murine leukemia L1210 cells. Murraol has been found to inhibit DNA synthesis, protein synthesis, and cell division by binding to bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA. It also inhibits proliferation in human prostate cancer DU145 cells by inducing apoptosis. Murraol has been found in the dichloromethane extract of paniculata plants.
