Description:
2-(Pyridin-3-yl)benzoic acid is a benzoic acid derivative that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth. It binds to the enzyme DNA gyrase, which is involved in maintaining the integrity of bacterial DNA. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. 2-(Pyridin-3-yl)benzoic acid also inhibits bacterial growth by causing metalation at the target site on DNA gyrase.
