Product Information
3-Methylpyridine-2-thioamide is an aliphatic compound that is a byproduct of the synthesis of 3-methylpyridine. It can be obtained from the reaction between acetyl chloride and 2-aminoethanol, or from the reaction between sodium cyanide and glyoxylate. This compound can be used in the synthesis of heterocycles, such as pyridines, pyrimidines, purines, and their derivatives. 3-Methylpyridine-2-thioamide is also used as a precursor to thioamides. The elimination of chloride ion leads to formation of imines which are useful for synthesizing dyes and pharmaceuticals.
