Vistusertib is a potent and selective inhibitor of the mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) that inhibits the activation of Akt, a downstream protein kinase. mTORC1 is an important regulator of cell growth, survival, proliferation, and metabolism. Vistusertib has been shown to be effective in the treatment of various cancers including solid tumours and platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. It has also been shown to have potential as a biomarker for autoimmune diseases because it inhibits autophagy.
