Description:Ci-IP3/PM is a fluorescent calcium ionophore. It is used to measure the intracellular calcium in cells, and is also used for staining and studying mitochondria. Ci-IP3/PM can be used to evaluate the function of receptor-mediated endocytosis. The ci-IP3/PM binds to extracellular Ca2+ by chelation, which prevents it from entering the cell. This leads to an increase in cytosolic Ca2+ concentration, which triggers sequestration of intracellular Ca2+. Transient increases in cytosolic Ca2+ concentrations are observed when cells are stimulated with receptor agonists. When the stimulus is removed, release of sequestered Ca2+ occurs, leading to a decrease in cytosolic Ca2+.
