Bis(dicyclohexylphosphinophenyl) ether has been shown to be an effective catalyst for reductive amination reactions of aldehydes with primary and secondary amines in the presence of a ruthenium catalyst. The phosphine group in this compound acts as both a reductant and as an acceptor for electrons from the ruthenium catalyst.
