Momfluorothrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide with a broad spectrum of activity. It is effective against mosquitoes, ticks, and lice. Momfluorothrin has been found to be an effective treatment for the prevention of influenza A and B viruses in humans.
Momfluorothrin is active against microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi, but it does not have any effect on viruses. It binds to the plasma membrane of the microbe or parasite and inhibits the synthesis of proteins essential for cell division, leading to cell death. Momfluorothrin also has antibacterial properties that are due to its inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis.
