Cross-coupling of 2-(o-tolyl)pyridine with boronic acid derivatives yields biphenyls, which are important in the manufacture of plastics and dyes. This compound can also be acetoxylated with acetic anhydride, followed by reductive elimination from the acetate ester to give an alcohol.; 2-(o-Tolyl) pyridine can be obtained by reacting benzene with o-chlorophenol and trimethylborane in the presence of copper chloride
