Product Information
2,5-Furandicarbonyl Dichloride is a diphenyl ether with a high boiling point. It has been used as an inexpensive monomer in the production of polymers for biofuel applications and as a film-forming polymer. Furfural can be synthesized from 2,5-furandicarbonyl dichloride by heating it to 150°C in the presence of water. This reaction requires no catalysts and is thus an uncatalysed process. Furfural is also obtained from the hydrolysis of fructose, which is produced from sucrose or starch by acid or enzymes. It has a melting point of about 110°C and is used for making plastics, adhesives, and resins.
