Tridecanal is an antimicrobial agent that is active against many types of viruses, bacteria and fungi. It has been shown to be active against HIV-1 and HIV-2 in vitro assays, as well as the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). Tridecanal inhibits the replication of these viruses by binding to their receptor cells. Tridecanal also inhibits the synthesis of viral DNA and RNA, which leads to inhibition of protein synthesis. This compound may have inhibitory properties on particle growth, but further research is needed in this area.
