7-Tetradecyne is an organic compound that is a condensation product of 7-iodo-1,3,5,7-tetraene and acetone. It has a molecular formula of C14H12I4 and a molecular weight of 232.07 g/mol. The acidity of the compound is pH 3 in water solution. 7-Tetradecyne can be reduced to 1,3,5,7-tetraene with potassium hydride or triethoxysilane in liquid phase at room temperature. Reduction processes are catalyzed by palladium catalysts such as Pd(OAc)2 and PdCl2. This molecule has functionalities such as terminal alkynes and can undergo hydrogenation reactions with acidic catalysts such as HSO4-.
