The drug has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against many microorganisms, including Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium, and Bacillus anthracis; Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli K1 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa; fungi such as Candida albicans; and viruses such as human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2).
