Cabraleahydroxylactone is a benzofuran derivative that inhibits the nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) and has significant cytotoxicity against hepg2 cells. Cabraleahydroxylactone induces apoptosis in cancer cells and inhibits macrophage proliferation in atherosclerotic lesions, which may be due to its inhibition of NF-κB activity. Cabraleahydroxylactone also has an inhibitory effect on meliaceae, which are plants that produce p-hydroxybenzoic acid, one of the major components of cabraleahydroxylactone.
