3-Epicabraleahydroxylactone is a japonica diterpenoid that has been shown to inhibit the Epstein-Barr virus and cancer cells. It has the ability to bind to antigen receptors on cells, which causes them to undergo apoptosis. 3-Epicabraleahydroxylactone is also able to bind with DNA and inhibit protein synthesis. The chemical transformation of 3-epicabraleahydroxylactone is not well understood, but it is believed that it may be due to a chemical reaction between 3-epicabraleahydroxylactone and traces of oxygen in the air.
