Product Information

Name:
SIBA
Description:

Sulfisoxazole is a sulfonamide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting the synthesis of folic acid. It also has antifungal and antiviral properties. Sulfisoxazole is used to treat urinary tract infections, including those caused by Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, or Enterococcus faecalis. Sulfisoxazole has been shown to be effective in treating basophilic leukemia and polymorphonuclear leucocytes. This drug also prevents the production of p-nitrophenyl phosphate from ATP.
Sulfisoxazole is used in combination with other antibiotics as an alternative treatment for tuberculosis, although it does not have potent activity against mycobacterium tuberculosis. Sulfisoxazole can be given orally or intravenously and is excreted unchanged in the urine.
