Vicenin-1 is a flavonol glycoside that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. Vicenin-1 has been shown to be toxic in laboratory mice, but at doses that are not likely to be found in humans. Vicenin-1 is absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract and metabolized by conjugation with phenolic acid and glucuronidation. The metabolic products are excreted in urine and bile. Vicenin-1 may have potential as a treatment for autoimmune diseases such as Goodpasture syndrome, thrombocytopenia, and cardiac disorders. Vicenin-1 also inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which play a role in allergic reactions.
