Oblongine is a product research chemical that has been shown to affect haemodynamic effects. It is a partial agonist of the alpha-1 adrenergic receptor, which leads to vasoconstriction and an increase in blood pressure. Oblongine also causes the release of histamine from mast cells, which may lead to allergic symptoms such as wheezing, sneezing, or hives. This chemical has been shown to be an active oxygen scavenger and can inhibit the activity of enzymes such as cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase that are responsible for production of prostaglandin E2. Oblongine also inhibits chloride channels, leading to contractions in smooth muscle cells and butyric acid production from the degradation of phospholipids.
