2-[(3-Amino-3-carboxy-propanoyl)amino]butane (2ACA) is a synthetic amino acid that is used in fluorescence assays for galacturonic acid. It is also used in electron microscopy to study the chemical stability of 2ACA. 2ACA has been shown to be effective in protecting human kidney cells from cell damage, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of proteins required for phospholipidosis and aminoglycoside elimination. 2ACA has also been shown to have a systemic effect on porcine kidney cells and fetal bovine kidney cells.
