Product Information
Pifithrin-± is a phosphatase inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the phosphatase activity of the human liver. It also has an anti-cancer effect and is used for diagnostic purposes in the localization of cancer cells. Pifithrin-± binds to the p-nitrophenyl phosphate and inhibits its activity, leading to a decrease in cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels in proximal tubules. This inhibition causes a decrease in uptake of ions, including calcium ions, which leads to increased calcium ion concentrations in urine. Pifithrin-± also inhibits protein synthesis by blocking the ryanodine receptor and also blocks cell growth by binding to the apical membrane on cells.END>>
