Description:Bencianol is a microparticle consisting of a core of benzoic acid and sodium hydroxide, which are surrounded by a shell of polyvinyl alcohol. Bencianol is used for the treatment of cerebral edema caused by conditions such as brain tumors and hydrocephalus. It is implanted into the cerebral ventricles by means of an iontophoresis device to reduce the intracranial pressure. This drug has been shown to be effective in vitro against human cancer cells, but not against bacteria. Bencianol is insoluble in water and must be reconstituted with a diluent before use.
