Vapiprost is a peptide inhibitor of the calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II. This enzyme phosphorylates the amino acid residue Thr-286 in the regulatory domain of the protein phosphatase 2A, which causes it to dephosphorylate and activate its substrates. Vapiprost prevents this phosphorylation and activation, thus inhibiting PKII activity. It is not active against other kinases or phosphatases.
